Abstract
Purpose - The purpose of research is to evaluate possible and potential capabilities of Baku-Tbilisi Kars railway project within the context of modernization of transport infrastructure alongside “Great Silk Road” route and justify its social-economic impacts.
Design/methodology: factor analysis and comparable analysis methods
Findings - Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway’s vital logistic importance and social-economic impact was justified via evaluating its potential capabilities within its effects on deepening of macro-regional economic integration.
Research limitations - Access to data sources and lack of available data of separate countries in regard with the plans of remodernization of transportation infrastructure in international shipping and regional policy of those counties to expand social and economic relations among each others.
Practical implications: This research will provide information support for the determination of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway’s importance in shipment of Europe and Asia region, economic efficiency. This research will also be useful alternative source of information for further researches in this direction.
Originality/value: for the first time potential capabilities of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project in logistics were evaluated within the context of main routes between Europe and Asia in scientific arena and its main social and economic impacts on deepening macroregional economic integration were justified.
